Salary: SGD $1,700 – $2,500 per month

Job Overview

We are looking for dedicated, responsible, and service-oriented individuals to join our healthcare team as a Patient Food Service Assistant. In this role, you will support the daily meal service operations within the hospital by ensuring that patients receive the correct meals according to their prescribed dietary requirements. You will work closely with nurses, dietitians, kitchen staff, and other healthcare professionals to provide high-quality food service while maintaining strict standards of food safety, hygiene, and patient care.

This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy helping others, have a positive attitude, and are comfortable working in a fast-paced healthcare environment. No prior healthcare experience is necessary as comprehensive on-the-job training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

The Patient Food Service Assistant is responsible for supporting all aspects of patient meal services and pantry operations. Your daily responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

– Take patients’ meal orders accurately according to hospital procedures and dietary guidelines.
– Verify patient information before taking meal orders to ensure accuracy.
– Assist patients with meal selections whenever necessary while following approved diet plans.
– Ensure every meal served matches the patient’s prescribed dietary requirements.
– Check meal labels carefully before food is delivered to patients.
– Work closely with nursing staff to confirm any special dietary instructions or changes.
– Serve breakfast, lunch, dinner, beverages, and snacks according to the hospital meal schedule.
– Deliver meals promptly to patient wards while maintaining food quality and proper temperature.
– Ensure meals are presented neatly and professionally before serving.
– Assist patients with basic meal-related requests whenever appropriate.
– Respond politely and professionally to patients’ enquiries regarding meal services.
– Collect food trays, utensils, and meal trolleys after patients have completed their meals.
– Remove used trays efficiently while maintaining cleanliness and minimizing disruption to patients.
– Sort food waste and dispose of waste materials according to hospital infection control procedures.
– Maintain cleanliness and organization of the pantry, meal preparation areas, and food service equipment.
– Clean food trolleys, serving equipment, workstations, and storage areas according to hospital cleaning schedules.
– Replenish pantry supplies including beverages, disposable utensils, cups, tissues, trays, condiments, and other essential items.
– Monitor inventory levels and report shortages to supervisors promptly.
– Assist in receiving, checking, and storing pantry supplies according to food safety standards.
– Ensure food items are stored correctly and rotated using proper stock rotation methods.
– Check expiry dates regularly and remove expired products following hospital procedures.
– Prepare simple refreshments, beverages, and light snacks requested by patients within approved guidelines.
– Prepare one complete set of clean bed linen for newly admitted patients whenever required.
– Deliver bed linen and related patient support items to designated wards.
– Support housekeeping and nursing teams when additional assistance is required within your assigned work area.
– Follow all food safety regulations, infection prevention protocols, and workplace health and safety procedures.
– Maintain high standards of personal hygiene, hand hygiene, and food handling practices at all times.
– Wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE) and uniform according to hospital policy.
– Complete daily operational checklists accurately and on time.
– Record pantry temperatures, refrigerator temperatures, and other food safety documentation where applicable.
– Report damaged equipment, food quality concerns, safety hazards, or maintenance issues immediately to supervisors.
– Escalate patient complaints or special requests to the appropriate department when necessary.
– Participate in departmental meetings, briefings, and training sessions.
– Support continuous quality improvement initiatives within the food service department.
– Perform additional duties assigned by supervisors to support smooth daily operations.

Requirements

Applicants should possess the following qualifications and attributes:

– Minimum GCE N Level or equivalent qualification.
– Comfortable working in a hospital or healthcare environment.

– Previous experience in food service, hospitality, customer service, catering, healthcare support, or housekeeping is an added advantage.
