JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

INPATIENT WARD SUPPORT

As a Healthcare Assistant, you will assist nurses and healthcare staff with various non-clinical and patient-support duties within the hospital ward.

Your responsibilities may include:

1. Meal and Beverage Support

• Prepare beverage trolleys for meal service.
• Assist with the preparation and distribution of beverages.
• Support meal service according to ward procedures.
• Ensure necessary items are available during meal periods.
• Replenish supplies between meal services.

2. Patient Assistance

• Assist patients with feeding under the supervision and direction of nurses.
• Provide basic assistance to patients when required.
• Respond to patients in a polite, respectful and caring manner.
• Assist with basic requests and direct clinical concerns to the appropriate healthcare staff.
• Maintain patience and professionalism when interacting with patients.

3. Patient Call Bell Support

• Respond promptly to patient call bells.
• Attend to basic patient requests where appropriate.
• Inform nurses or relevant healthcare staff when further assistance is required.
• Help ensure patient needs are communicated promptly to the healthcare team.

4. Ward Supplies and Inventory

• Replenish essential ward items.
• Help organize commonly used supplies.
• Support inventory requirements between meal services.
• Ensure ward supplies are properly arranged and available when required.
• Inform the relevant staff when supplies need to be replenished.

5. Ward Cleanliness and General Support

• Help maintain cleanliness and organization within designated ward areas.
• Keep work areas neat and orderly.
• Assist with routine ward support duties.
• Follow hospital procedures and workplace safety requirements.
• Support nurses and other healthcare staff with daily operational tasks.

6. Emergency Department Support

Depending on the assigned department, Healthcare Assistants may also provide general support to the Emergency Department team and assist with routine operational duties as instructed.

All duties will be performed according to the hospital’s procedures and under the direction of the relevant healthcare professionals.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Candidates should meet the following requirements:

• PSLE or equivalent qualification.
• Basic English communication skills.
• Basic computer skills.
• Candidates who are comfortable using technology are welcome.
• Comfortable with hands-on responsibilities.
• Comfortable working in a patient-facing environment.
• Caring, responsible and patient attitude.
• Able to communicate politely with patients, visitors and colleagues.
• Able to follow instructions from nurses and supervisors.
• Able to work as part of a healthcare team.
• Willing to work rotating shifts.
• Willing to work weekends and public holidays according to the roster.
• Able to commit to a minimum of one year.

NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Previous hospital or healthcare experience is not mandatory for this position.

Training will be provided to successful candidates to help them understand their duties, workplace procedures and expectations.

WORKING IN A HOSPITAL ENVIRONMENT

This role provides an opportunity to gain practical experience in a professional healthcare environment.

Healthcare Assistants work alongside nurses and other hospital personnel and contribute to the smooth running of daily ward operations.

The position requires candidates to be responsible, attentive and comfortable interacting with patients.

Because this is a patient-facing position, applicants should be prepared for hands-on duties and should understand that hospital work may involve standing, walking and assisting patients throughout the shift.

SHIFT AND WORK SCHEDULE

This is a rotating-shift position.

Candidates must be prepared to work according to the hospital’s roster, including weekends and public holidays when scheduled.

Applicants should therefore be comfortable with changing shift timings and able to maintain reliable attendance.

Candidates who are unable to commit to rotating shifts or weekend/public holiday work may not be suitable for this position.
