TEMPORARY EVENT RETAIL CASHIER – MID-AUTUMN FESTIVAL

JOB OVERVIEW
We are looking for suitable candidates to join a temporary retail event in the Orchard area during the Mid-Autumn Festival period.
This is a temporary part-time and contract position suitable for individuals who are looking for short-term employment opportunities in Singapore. Successful applicants will assist with retail event operations, customer service and cashiering duties throughout the assigned working period.
The main responsibility of this position is cashiering. However, staff must also be prepared to assist with general retail duties, customer service and other operational tasks when required.
Applicants should be comfortable working in a busy retail environment, interacting with customers and following instructions from the assigned supervisor.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- CASHIERING DUTIES
Cashiering will be the main responsibility for this position.
Responsibilities may include:
- Operate the cashier counter during assigned working hours.
- Process customer payments accurately and efficiently.
- Handle cash and other approved payment methods.
- Receive and return the correct amount of cash to customers.
- Handle and tally cash floats according to operational procedures.
- Check cash amounts carefully before completing transactions.
- Ensure transactions are recorded correctly.
- Assist customers with basic payment-related enquiries.
- Maintain an organized and clean cashier counter.
- Report any cashiering or payment discrepancies to the supervisor.
- Follow all cashiering procedures and instructions provided by the supervisor.
- Assist with closing or handover procedures when required.
- Ensure the cashier area is properly maintained throughout the shift.
- RETAIL AND CUSTOMER SERVICE DUTIES
Although cashiering is the main responsibility, successful applicants must also be willing to perform retail duties.
Responsibilities may include:
- Welcome and assist customers at the retail event.
- Help customers with their purchases.
- Answer basic customer enquiries about available products.
- Provide polite and professional customer service.
- Assist customers in locating products or items.
- Support sales activities during busy periods.
- Help arrange and display products neatly.
- Ensure products and merchandise are presented properly.
- Assist in keeping the retail area organized.
- Monitor the assigned retail area and report issues to the supervisor.
- Support customers when additional assistance is required.
- Maintain a professional and helpful attitude when dealing with customers.
- GENERAL EVENT SUPPORT
Staff may also be required to assist with general event operations depending on daily operational requirements.
Additional duties may include:
- Perform ad hoc tasks assigned by the supervisor.
- Assist other team members during peak periods.
- Support the smooth operation of the retail event.
- Help maintain cleanliness and organization of the assigned work area.
- Assist with basic product arrangement and replenishment when required.
- Follow instructions regarding daily work assignments.
- Cooperate with other members of the event team.
- Assist with opening or closing procedures where required.
- Complete other reasonable retail-related tasks assigned during the shift.
IMPORTANT WORKING REQUIREMENT
Applicants must be willing to perform BOTH retail and cashiering duties.
This is not a cashier-only position.
The supervisor will determine the actual work assignment according to the operational requirements of the event. Staff may therefore be required to move between cashiering, customer service and general retail duties during their working period.
Applicants who are only interested in cashiering and are unwilling to perform retail duties may not be suitable for this position.
Flexibility is important because duties may vary depending on customer traffic, event operations, staffing requirements and the instructions provided by the supervisor.
WORKING PERIOD
The temporary employment period is:
19 August 2026 to 29 September 2026
Applicants should be able to commit to the required working period and understand that this is a temporary event position.
The position is intended to support retail operations during the Mid-Autumn Festival event period in the Orchard area.
WORKING DAYS
Staff are required to work approximately 5 to 6 days per week.
Working days include weekends.
Applicants must therefore be comfortable working on Saturdays, Sundays and other assigned days according to the roster.
The actual number of working days may depend on the operational schedule and staffing requirements.
Applicants should be prepared to follow the roster provided by the supervisor.
WORKING SHIFTS
The available working shifts include:
9:30 AM – 6:30 PM
10:00 AM – 7:00 PM
1:00 PM – 10:00 PM
The final shift will be assigned by the supervisor.
Applicants are not able to freely select their preferred working shift.
Successful applicants should therefore be flexible and prepared to work according to the assigned schedule.
Shift arrangements may depend on operational requirements, staffing levels and event activities.
SALARY
Basic Salary:
S$12 per hour
Overtime Rate:
S$18 per hour after 8.5 working hours per shift
Payment Frequency:
Bi-weekly payment
Overtime will be based on applicable working arrangements and operational requirements.
The actual amount earned will depend on the number of hours worked, assigned shifts and any applicable overtime hours.
DRESS CODE
All successful applicants are required to follow the specified dress code while working.
Required attire:
- Plain black polo tee
- Dark navy jeans
- Black covered shoes
Staff should report for work in clean, neat and appropriate attire.
The dress code is intended to maintain a consistent and professional appearance for staff working at the retail event.
CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPECTATIONS
Because this position involves direct interaction with customers, applicants should be able to communicate politely and professionally.
Staff are expected to:
- Treat customers with courtesy and respect.
- Remain patient when handling customer enquiries.
- Provide assistance whenever reasonably required.
- Maintain a positive and professional attitude.
- Follow the instructions of the supervisor.
- Handle busy periods calmly and responsibly.
- Maintain good personal presentation.

During peak periods, customer traffic may increase significantly. Staff should therefore be prepared to work efficiently while maintaining accuracy and good customer service.
CASHIERING EXPECTATIONS
Accuracy is particularly important because cashiering is the main responsibility of this position.
Staff should be able to:
- Handle cash responsibly.
- Count money carefully.
- Check transactions before completing them.
- Maintain the assigned cash float properly.
- Follow cashiering procedures.
- Inform the supervisor promptly if an issue occurs.
- Keep the cashier counter organized.
- Avoid unnecessary errors during transactions.
- Maintain focus during busy periods.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The position will be based at a retail event in the Orchard area.
